Mrs  Kermani Avideh will  present his P.H.D thesis on "Factors of Conveying Messages in  Place Using Semiology Approach" in Iran at 8:30:00 A.M on December 25th 2016.

Abstract

Beside all it’s other roles, Place is a Media and it conveys messages. Most particular messages in place are those conveying by Architects and Urban designers. Like other Arts experts, They tend to convey messages through their media and wants people understand their meanings.

This research is focused on How may designers help the process of place making to convey messages to people better, or in other word Regarding which elements in design process could help people understand the designer’s message better? Reaching this target Semiology has been chosen as an approach which describes the process of conveying messages in language. So the assumption is shaped as:

“It seems that Semiology as an approach to Semantics can give place designers, obligations and indicators which help them convey their messages to people better.”

First of all by using Content Analysis on books and other written materials in language Semiology, obligations and indicators had been found. Then the next step was to extend them into Place and testing whether they are working the same for Place or not. Testing part had been done based on Delphi technique and through collecting the ideas of place experts. according to interest and knowledge 10 experts had been selected, and in 3 questionnaire their ideas had been collected.

The answers had been analyzed using S.P.S.S software. The results show that all elements which are working in Language semiotics are working for place making too. Experts integrated ideas shows that all elements are working as indicators in place making and none of them are obligatory to convey messages in place.

Conclusion is that in order to making meaningful places which can convey specific messages to people, using the 22 founded indicators in this thesis would be helpful.
