Mr Anbari Rouzbahani Nezamedin will present his P.H.D thesis on "a conceptual framework to formulate formal structure of Adaptive skins" in Iran at 11:00 A.M on Feb 11th 2017.
Abstract
With an overview of critical environmental issues and those that appear to be emerging as some of the likely energy problems, the flow of environmentally responsive architecture to reduces pollution and energy consumption turned to the one of the most important trends in contemporary architecture. The above mentioned concerns developed many of so-called sustainable architecture styles while rooted in the same basics and principles, rarely results from precise, transparent theoretical and conceptual frameworks, so they don’t imply to a coherent image of sustainable design. In addition, the literature review results show that sustainable architectures are not necessary equal with high quality architectures. Therefore researchers and specialists are trying to establish correct theoretical and conceptual frameworks in sustainable designs which could be ended in superiority both in architecture qualities and sustainability. This thesis tries to investigate on the provision of a conceptual framework in analysing and formulating formal structure of sustainable architectures and adaptive skins through merging two dominant concepts in architecture: Tectonics and Sustainability. The of this thesis under the topic of Sustainable Tectonics is taken from the research’s theoretical framework; Sustaining Architecture which itself is obtained from an inquiry on interactions between two principle headings; sustainability and architecture design.
Thesis analyzes 34 projects’ documents from three different approaches of sustainable architectures domain through Grounded theory (GT) research method founded in qualitative analysis and constant comparison. Through this method and towards answering the research’s questions, thesis firstly establish the previously mentioned conceptual framework, Sustainable Tectonics, then proposes a model to formulate and analyze the interactions and inter-connections between formal structure of architectures and different dimensions of sustainability by employing tectonics parameters. This model helps to qualitatively evaluate sustainable designs from tectonics point of view and its classic parameters. The research results finally come up with several grounded models for any different approaches in sustainable architecture area to provide an early method for criticizing and categorizing sustainable architecture.
